His passion for chimney sweeping began long before it became a career. As the youngest of five siblings growing up in a house with an open fire and no central heating, it was Stan’s daily job during winter to clean, build and light the fire. In those days, his dad swept the chimney – until his mum eventually decided to call in a professional! Years later, that same chimney sweep returned to service Stan’s own home, sparking an idea.

After a 30-year career in the computer industry, where Stan built a reputation for being great with people and not just machines, he found himself rethinking his path. He decided to train with the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps, where he discovered there was much more to sweeping chimneys than simply pushing a brush up a flue. He launched Stan The Sweep in 2011 – and hasn’t looked back since.

Now a trusted chimney sweep and HETAS-trained stove technician, Stan has built a loyal customer base across Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and South Yorkshire. He takes real pride in offering a professional, friendly service that’s rooted in problem-solving and practical advice. Whether he’s advising on stove efficiency, identifying appliance faults, or simply having a cuppa with a long-standing customer, Stan genuinely loves helping people.

One of his favourite parts of the job? Visiting customers year after year and seeing their children grow up – and even sweeping chimneys for old schoolmates, ex-teachers, or friends from cricket and rugby days. Over the years, he's become a friendly, familiar face in the community – especially valued by elderly customers who are always happy to share a chat and a brew.
